Upcoming Events
August 31, 2023 VHF Simplex Drill
Object: Transmit a simple ICS-213 one-line message from Fallbrook to South Bay.
Message should be without errors or omissions. This is to experiment with both relays, as well as voice traffic handling skills.
How: As normal practice, the net will convene on the Mt Otay 449.440 PL 107.2 K6RRR repeater at 7:30 PM.
Following announcements, we will commence the simplex exercise.
All net participants will move to and monitor (changed 8/31/23) 145.555MHz. Simplex- No offset, no tone.
At the commencement of the exercise, Stephen K6MIE will transmit the ICS-213 via voice to ARES Valley Center EC Mike N2DDS, who will retransmit to San Marcos EC Marty AF5T, then to San Diego Central Bill K1CT, then to South Bay Curtis K6IBP.
Relays to the ECs may be accomplished by regular net members when directed by the EC.
ARES members not in the EC chain will monitor and record the message as they hear it. Following successful completion of the ICS-213 chain to South Bay, members not in the above chain may email their versions to N1TEN to verify successful receipt. (Scan and email preferred)
Use ONLY the attached version of the ICS-213 form, as there are many versions. It is fillable in Microsoft Word. Or can be printed out and filled by hand.
N1TEN, Weekly Net Control, will verify the correctly completed forms and apply a prize or prizes to correct versions. Correct versions will use the ICS-213 form as above (distributed prior to the drill by ARES email), as well as matching form box fillings. Prize(s) will be given out at the September 9th meeting.
Please direct your questions to the undersigned. Comments are welcome if anything above needs clarification.
I’m hoping for an interesting exercise.
