Armstrong Broadcast Returns to New Jersey in June
The commemorative Armstrong broadcast station will return next month to 42.8 MHz in the New York City Tri-State area.
On Thursday, June 19, Steve Hemphill and the staff at the historic Alpine Tower in Alpine, N.J., will celebrate with a commemorative broadcast the 20th anniversary of the Armstrong Memorial event, which Hemphill originally organized in 2005 to honor the man who made FM radio possible, Edwin Armstrong.

FM Broadcasting was originally in the 40 MHz band but was later moved to the 88-108 MHz region. Frequency doublers were used on some old exciters to get them up to the “new band.”
First Worked All States (WAS) award issued for the 630-meter band
Monumental ham radio achievement: Worked All States on the 630 meter band (which is just below the AM broadcast band). Check it out at:

Ron, KG6HSQ, had to attendees introduce themselves. We have a new member from the Avocado Festival, Cole, KO6CZZ.
Ron, KG6HSQ, reported that FARC had a table at this morning’s second semi-annual Wildfire Symposium held at Fallbrook High School. He displayed pictures from the event and the notice from the Village News mentioning the Fallbrook Amateur Radio Club’s participation.
Ron also showed Frederick’s, KN6YDQ, picture from the front page of the Village News. Frederick successfully relocated a swarm of bees from the Albertson’s parking lot. The article and picture were authored by Jacob, KO6DSS.
Ron presented pictures from the Avocado Festival and solicited comments from the club members participating on any improvements to the process that could be made
Lee, KM6UFF, reported on the presentations at today’s Wildfire Symposium. Presentation stress the importance of brush clearance around homes. There were 10,000 homes in the recent LA fires and not sufficient fire resources to provide structure protection at this level, brush clearance is the only defense. Presentations indicated that there will be a potential for large fires by this July. Forrest, KK6BYR, added that fire season is now a year round event. Building codes will now require a 5 foot zero zone around houses to be kept clear of combustible vegetation or round coverings. Evacuation warnings will give a 2 hour warning. Evacuation orders require immediate vacuation. The sounding of a high/low siren is now a warning for immediate evacuation. Water agencies reported that normal water tank levels of 10% are increased to 100% during fire season. Agencies have installed a number of open tanks that can be filled upon radio command from helicopters and used to fill buckets suspended under the aircraft. FPUD, Camp Pendleton and Rainbow have water main cross connects to allow the agencies to provide each other water during emergencies. Where no permanent cross connects are available, these agencies have the capability to cross connect using fire hydrants hose connections.
President Ron Patten, KG6HSQ, adjourned that meeting at 1600 hrs.
