Annual ARES Membership Verification For 2020
Happy New Year, ARES Members !!!
When you have time, please log into www.sdgares.net for the annual verification of your ARES profile and to indicate your willingness to continue to help ARES with communications duty in the public service, if disaster strikes.
Just by logging into the web site, the database adds a time-date stamp to your member profile. There is no specific button to push to verify your membership.
If you need a password reset, I can help with that.
If you changed your call sign or moved out of the area, please let me know.
If you would prefer to be removed from the ARES membership list, please tell me.
Last year, 222 San Diego-area hams verified their ARES profile.
If you have not yet subscribed to the new ARES email list at GROUPS.IO, please go to http://sdgares.groups.io to join that email list.
Thank you.

Virtual Meeting, Fallbrook, California
January 2, 2021
Vice-President Ron Patten, KG6HSQ, called the Virtual meeting to order at 1505 hrs.
A pledge of allegiance was conducted by Hayden, KG6YVD.
Annual elections were held. Nominations for officers were as follows:
President: Ron Patten, KG6HSQ
Vice President: Lee Standley, KM6UFF
Secretary/Treasurer: Brent Dussia, KJ6UMY
The slated of officers was approved by the members attending without opposition.
Brent, KJ6UMY, gave the following financial report.
Bob, W6VR, in response to a pre-meeting comment by Hayden, KG6YVD, offered that polarizations on satellite antennas can often by switched by relays mounted at the antenna.
Ron, KG6HSQ, reminded member of ARES that they should check-in at sdgares.net to renew their membership. Renewal is automatic when you login to the website. Checking in to our local, Tuesday night ARES net does not automatically make you a member of ARES, you must register on the SDGARES website.
Ron, KG6HSQ, gave a presentation on the recent Creek Fire. He first showed a graph of the users monitoring our feed on Broadcastify. The number of users peaked at over 360 during the fire. The Creek Fire started in a drainage adjacent to De Luz Road. Ron presented Google overheads and street views to describe the fire locations. Evacuations areas used the country grid square map. These maps are available via a link on the fallbrookarc.org website.
Go to: fallbrookarc.org > General Info > Fire Resources > Public Safety Map Book
Links are provided for both web based and downloadable versions of the grid square maps. Final size of the Creek Fire was over 4,200 acres, no injuries were reported or structures damaged.
Timothy, AF6GL, commented that fires used to be named by the incident command using local geographical landmarks, but are now often named by dispatch.
Ron, KG6HSQ, gave a presentation on generator transfer switches. These switches allow the connection of a generator to your home, while preventing the simultaneous connection of generator and power company supplies. Lockouts can be added as mechanical pieces to some load centers (power panels). Other types use transfer switches with separate circuit breakers for the backed up circuits. Ron presented pictures of his installation process.
The group had a discussion of generators and backup power for cable TV and telephones.
Ron adjourned the meeting at 1626 hrs.
